SHAAG / SHAAFT
SHAAG (Secularist, Humanist, Agnostic, Atheist Group), or as it is sometimes called SHAAFT (Secularist, Humanist, Agnostic, Atheist, Free-thinkers), is a group at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Tampa committed to supporting humanists, agnostics, atheists, deists, and others who view human activity as the basis for moral systems, and view man as an integral part of the nature of the cosmos.
The group meets on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday nights of each month at 7:00 pm to discuss topics of interest to the members. Anyone who would like to come is invited, but the discussions can tend to get more detailed and excited than the normal UU Sunday services.
Everyone who comes is respected for his/her individual personal worth as a human being; the ideas they espouse, however, have to stand the test of the conversation. On the other hand, most everyone is very polite and considerate, and we have had only a few instances where feelings were irreparably damaged.
